On January 10, 2018, the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on Landsat 8 got a clear, closeup view of the area around the Klyuchevskaya volcano, located on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia. The volcano is the tallest and most active on the peninsula, and the eruption in the image had been ongoing since August 2015. More than 100 eruptions have occurred at Klyuchevskaya in the past 3,000 years, with 12 eruptions since 2000.
