The Yungang Grottoes are mountainside Buddhist caves, listed as UNESCO World Heritage site. The Yungang Grottoes, formerly the Wuzhoushan Grottoes, are ancient Chinese Buddhist temple grottoes near the city of Datong in the province of Shanxi. Yungang Grottoes, one of the three major cave clusters in China extends 0.62 miles from east to west. There are 45 main caves in Yungang Grottoes, 252 large and small caves, and more than 51,000 stone sculptures. It is one of the largest ancient grottoes in China. It is also known as the Mogao Grottoes of Dunhuang, Longmen Grottoes of Luoyang and Maijishan Grottoes of Tianshui.
